Are you a midlife solo traveller?

Or perhaps you’re plucking up the nerve to go travelling alone? If so, I’m glad you’ve found your way here. You should feel right at home with me.

Hello! My name is Bridget and, unlike most female solo travel bloggers out there, I’m well past my 20s and 30s. Many of my adventures have been as a solo traveller, which can bring its own challenges but also enormous rewards.

Do you have a bit more cash to spend on travel?

When you go searching for inspiration and information, do you find that much of this is aimed squarely at travellers on a budget? I am a flashpacker and relish the challenge of seeking out affordable luxury travel, whilst keeping an independent spirit. But it is not all first-class flights and limousine transfers. Critically, it is about choosing wisely, be it a cabaña on the beach or splashing the cash on a 5* hotel.

I understand how you want to travel.

At The Flashpacker, I share my travel experiences and give you practical tips on how to make them happen. We’re talking about mostly solo adventures on a midrange budget, with the odd splurge on luxury hotels, business class flights and cruises. No backpacking tales of travelling on $50 a day here! There are budget travel bloggers out there who will tell you about that far better than I.

Maybe you have already seen something of the world and are ready to seek out new places or retrace your steps in a little bit more comfort? Or it could be that budget travelling simply does not hold any appeal for you. What is important is that pampering yourself does not mean you cannot have an authentic travel experience!

A little bit about me

I’m a part-time traveller, squeezing in travel with my part-time work as an NHS pharmacist. At 19, I had my first travel misadventure, camping with a friend in the south of France, where an enormous storm demolished our tent. Fittingly, the company we went with was called Tent Wreck Tent Trek.

Since then, I have explored many corners of our planet, swapping cockroach-ridden hostels for boutique hotels. No further tents were harmed during these adventures.

My first solo adventure was in 1989 when I headed off to Israel to volunteer on a kibbutz. It was a life-changing experience from which I have never looked back.

I am at peace walking barefoot across a soft sandy beach or gazing at snow-capped mountains. I’m an outgoing introvert, a procrastinator-perfectionist and I cry at soppy movies. I am a complete cinephile, self-confessed Trekkie – the Original Series is the best …. obviously!  – and a weakness for Lindor chocolates.

Want to know more?

That’s easy. Sit back in a chair, make yourself a cup of tea (or pour a glass of something stronger … go on!) and have a peek at my site.  My aim is to inspire and inform and I hope you enjoy the blog as much as I enjoy creating it.

Being a London lass, I make no apology for including a sprinkling of tales from my much-loved home city 🙂
